Goodbye Internet Explorer

For years I’ve stick on my IE (Microsoft’s Internet Explorer) since I had my own personal computer. But my love for the past faded when I met Firefox. Thanks to my mentor Daniel who introduced Emacs and also Mozilla Firefox to me. But, I guess most of my friends and many people in China are still using IE or other IE core browsers such as Maxthon. But today I want to tell you that it’s time to say goodbye to IE because a much better browser is ready for you.

The story should be back to one day. On that day, I find a website (I cannot recall the URL now) that provides mp3 format record of New Concept English. When I clicked right button of my mouse in order to download these good stuffs, the website just pop up a dialogue box saying it is forbidden to do that. So bad! Daniel told me that why not try to use Firefox instead. I accepted his advice and use Firefox to browse this site. The result was that the webmaster was not smart enough to forbid my download as in IE. From then on, I became curious about this browser which is brand new for me. As I keep on using it, I began to hook on it, and the most important reason should be its thousands of extensions which help Firefox to expand its original functionality. Also here some good reasons:

  • Tremendous extensions in Firefox will help you to do everything you can image such as reading weather forecast, emails, restore the web page you read last time, tab browsing, fast blogging, fast download…so much that I cannot list of them here! For more information refer to the extension website.
  • Firefox has much better security, so your computer will get hacked less.
  • The download manager provides a tabular view of all of the files that you have ever downloaded, allowing you to open them without having to search around on your file system. It provides progress indicators in the window as items download. (I haven’t use Flashget for a long time)
  • The profile including your favorite sites, plugins… could easily backup while you reinstall your system.
  • View the syntax coloured source of a page, without having to view it in Notepad.
  • ……………………………..

There are so many. Check this article “101 things that the Mozilla browser can do that IE cannot” for detail. Even, the designers of Internet Explorer themselves had switched to Firefox. Before you start, you may worry about your “favourites site list” in IE will be lost if using this new Browser. But it’s a redundant worry, since Firefox will ask you whether you want import your favourites into Firefox or not. OK, why not download it and have a try?

Another thing I need to point out is, if you download and install Firefox from the above link, I will get $0.1 from Google. You know, it’s just a win-win. You get a better Browser and I get a small reward.
BTY, Mozilla doesn’t inflate prices and use the money to vaccinate children in Africa.
