Tokyo’s radiation level

Posted by – April 8, 2011

This is the best chart I have found so far from the NHK website

I was outside when on 15th when the peak happens :(
by looking at the chart.. it’s definitely getting better. This radiation accident seems like a bit overblown. It was quite scary on 15th when the spark happened. I could not image how much radioactive stuff was leaked near the plant.

Although the current radiative level in Tokyo is not too worried, Tokyo Electric has poorly handled this accident, that cause hundreds of thousands gaijin flee away the country. It’s time for the Japanese government to review this company.

I surivived in the 5th biggest earthquake in history

I am still alive. Thank god. I thought I would be buried in the office today.

All the train are stopped and I am walking home now. Everyone is walking. all cars on the road stuck in the traffic jam. Don’t know what is the impact on the north Japan, where is much more close to the epicenter ..

Since came to japan. except the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, this is another big shock I am *lucky* enough to experience.

Apply A Credit Card in Japan

Posted by – October 25, 2007

Japan is a country where somehow national discrimination happens every now and then. Let’s say that foreigners applying credit card in Japan would be a good example. Most of the credit card companies reject your application basically because of you are foreigner here regardless of your job, income, profile or whatsoever.

Where am I now and where am I gonna go

Having been in Shanghai about 2 months now, many things happened during this return period to Shanghai… (Omit thousands of words here) And I also find out myself has changed a lot, which I began to thinking whether Shanghai is the city right for me. Shanghai is definitely very different from Tokyo. When referring the feeling of home, Shanghai is also like a stranger as Tokyo. The obvious difference between the two cities is that one speaks Japanese and the other speaks Chinese. Besides, the more important point I think is that most of stuffs in Shanghai that can rarely found in other cities in China is only for the rich people or foreigners here. Like many shopping malls, bars and apartments whose price is far from the average of income of Shanghai residence.

An Excellent Dentist Service in Tokyo

Posted by – September 2, 2006

Bad luck but also could say good luck. The bad thing is that I have to go to see a dentist in Japan. As you can image that it would be awkward for a foreigner who does not speak Japanese at going to see a dentist in Japan. People here rarely speak English, which is totally different from I image before I came here. While the fortunate thing is that I found a Chinese speaking dentist via James. He is very kind and the dentist is also very nice person.

She was so nice that gave me a small surgery on my broken tooth and setup a temporary one for me. She told me that it’s more expensive if I do orthodontics in Tokyo. Though one month left is enough for me to take this surgery and absolutely she could tell me to do the surgery in her dentist clinic. Instead, she told me that my tooth got phlogiston and it took more than 1 month to do it. So I’d better take the surgery in China then setup a ceramic tooth. To my most surprise is that she refused to receive any fee including my temporary teeth. I would like to really appreciate her professional and kindness!

For her kindness, I would like to post advertisement for her clinic:

With pretty much mixed up of combination of feelings in Tokyo and lots of training class and work during the daytime, almost 5 weeks no writing blogging. Finally I got some motivation to add something here. I will try to write things in a reverse order since me landing on Narita airport. My elementary school teacher taught me that is called cut back. Ok, let me go head.

Dinner with Jessica and Jose

With pretty much mixed up of combination of feelings in Tokyo and lots of training class and work during the daytime, almost 5 weeks no writing blogging. Finally I got some motivation to add something here. I will try to write things in a reverse order since me landing on Narita airport. My elementary school teacher taught me that is called cut back. Ok, let me go head.

Now just came back from dinner with my current manager and colleagues. Although I felt somewhat uncomfortable because of alcohol, I have a very good time in my deep heart. We went to a Japanese restaurant and have a good plentiful Japanese food. We talked much and I learned a lot because what we are talking with is senior people, haha. The interesting thing is that Jose (currently my boss’s boss :) is learning Chinese. So most of our talk is in Chinese and simultaneously translate it into English again for him. Here I would like to say a little more about my manager Jessica. She is so nice not because of everyone told me whilst I mentioned her, but the feeling when you talking and hanging with her and this feeling makes me very comfortable, of which I would like to build.

C++ training

Posted by – July 29, 2006

4 days C++ training just finished yesterday. I was extremely impressed by the instructor’s deep insight and great knowledge of C++. As before I join Morgan Stanley, I thought I had a pretty good knowledge of C++. After this class, I find that still long way to go for me.

Tokyo Impression

Posted by – July 29, 2006

After spent a couple of days in Tokyo, I find many interesting thins here:
The whole city is very clean.
People don’t talk much in the public places such as in the subways.
People don’t eat things in the way to company. As my first several days in Tokyo due to the late for work in the morning, I ate some bread on the train on the way to work. Many people around me looked me very strangely. After many days I realize the problem.
All the people related serving industry is very very polite to customers. For example, the waiters and sales people in the super market.
People have a custom to keep the order of everything. You cannot see anyone jump the queue.
You can see pigeons everywhere even in the downtown. If a pigeon is on the middle of the road, people always stop the car just like there is a person.
Life quality is higher than Shanghai and also many things are more expensive than Shanghai.

Ebisu Garden Place and Morgan Stanley

Posted by – July 29, 2006

Morgan Stanley’s Tokyo office is in the Ebisu Garden Place. It’s a quite very good place, no crowd people just like city within the city. It consist a large array of restaurans and shops and some western style buildings. And the free lift to the top of the Garden Place Tower offers one of the better scenic views of Tokyo. It is connected with the JR Yamanote Line Ebisu station by the well marked “Yebisu Skywalk” on which I walk everyday.
