Apply A Credit Card in Japan

Japan is a country where somehow national discrimination happens every now and then. Let's say that foreigners applying credit card in Japan would be a good example. Most of the credit card companies reject your application basically because of you are foreigner here regardless of your job, income, profile or whatsoever.

Mitsui Sumitomo Bank/card is a good example. They turned down my application twice. I have been trying to telephone them and ask about the reason. But they just simply answer with no English speaking people there to answer my question. The reason I apply its card is the point can convert to ANA miles. Unfortunately it seems to me Mitsui sumitomo is the only partner of ANA while this company is so domestic and anti-foreign.

No wonder there is someone on the internet is shouting:

“All because Mitsui Sumitomo Bank does NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS. WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO MORE BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO GIVE ME A CREDIT CARD!!! I AM NOT A CREDIT RISK! LOOK AT MY PROFILE YOU STUPID IDIOTS! “

For any foreigners out there living in Japan, one of the choice is Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (三菱東京UFJ銀行), this bank give me the first credit card in Japan, although I just been here for about 3 month without any credit record. They even don't need a hanko (Inkan) while most of the other bank need you to provide it when apply credit card. I applied its credit card and banking card together in Hiroo branch. The bank clerk there is very nice. However the small trick is, although I have been working in my company for 3 months, but I was told to fill the form that I have been working in my current company for 3 years. That's a little bit funny that the bank itself cheats their counterparty credit company to work around the traditional Japanese business routine. Anyway, they are very friendly to the foreign customers.

確かに外国人として日本でビザカードを申請するのはやさしいとはいえないね。うちも二回も申請してみましたが、やっと手に入ったわよ。
